Listen to this vandana of ganapati ji by tulsidas ji

This post is totally dedicated to Goswami Tulasi Das ji and his creations .You can find his popular and rare compositions here .He has done such a great work in Hindi Awadhi language but he never did so for fame .It was all that came out from the deapth of his heart with that special feeling that we call "Devotion" towards his lord "Sri Ram Chandra ji " . His creations are based on Balmiki Ramayana and the experiences of his own life .You can easily find his experiences in his creations that make them more sensitive and intricate too. What he thought at that time , how can we know but some of his compositions are just a derivation of the general communication between him and the  saints at that time . You can see one like Jaake priya na Ram Baidehi ... It is a conversation between Tulsidas ji and Meera Bai where this topic is raised by Meerabai ji that her relatives did not allow her to worship Lord Krishna then Tulsidas ji replied her by writing like this-

"jaake piya na ram baidehi
so chadiye koti bairi sam yadyapi param sanehi
Tajyo pita prahlad vibhihan bandhu bharat mahtari
bali guru tyajo kant brij bani tani bhaya mud mangalkari
naate neh ram se maniyat subhag susebya jahanlo
anjan kahan wa aankh jehi phute bahutak kaho kahanlo
tulsi so sab bhanti paramhit pujya pran te pyaro
jaso hoya saneha ram pada aito mato hamaro "

You will feel strange to know that these all words are written by that man who had been once chided upon by his own wife . Yes , though Tulsidas ji was brilliant since his childhood but he was not involved in deep devotion of Lord Rama since childhood .He loved his wife very much but once Tulsidas ji made a lot attempts to meet her while she was far from him , when tulsidas ji reached her she told him that if you did all this endaevours for Lord Rama you would have crossed  "bhavasagar" .So dont long for me but this longing should be for the Lord .This changed his life.

Jab janki nath sahaya karen - This song is a rendition to the devotees

Lyrics -

Jab janaki nath sahaya kare tab kaun bigad kare nar tero

suraj mangal som brigu sut bandhu aru guru vardayak tero
rahu ketu ki nahi gamyata sang sanischar hot uchero
dust duhshashan vimal draupadi chir utar kumantar phero
jaki sahaya kari karunanidhi badh gaye chir ke  maar ghaneri
garbha mein rakhyo parikshit raja aswasthama jab ashtra phero
bhasrat mein maruhi ke anda ta par gaj ka ghanta gero
jaki sahaya kari karunanidhi take jagat mein bhag badhero
raghuvanshi santan sukhdayi tulsidas charanan ko chero

Meaning -

When the master of Janki (Janki =the daughter of janak ji = Sita ji ) means Ram ji is favourable to you , who will harm you . The astrological planets like Sun ,Mars , Moon ,Venus the son of Bhrigu become your brotherly and the Jupitar becomes boon giver to you .

The Rahu and ketu cant reach you and together with them the sanischar too disappears .
The wicked Duhshashan and humble Draupadi : He tried to make draupadi naked and said vulgar words to her , for saving her the Lord "ocean of mercy" helped her by densly wrapping her in the cloth .
The Lord saved Parikshit in the womb from ashwasthama when he tried to kill parkshit (the son of Abhimanyu from Uttara )by arms .
Whom so ever the  "treasure of mercy " helps ,he /she have a huge fate(strong fate) in this world .
The Lord belonging from Raghu Clan , is pleasant to the saints ,Tulsidas is the servant of  his feet .

Meaning -

O mind! Revere the benign Shree Ramachandra, who can remove the intense fear of this world
Who has fresh lotus eyes, lotus face and lotus hands, feet like lotus and like the rising sun
His image exceeds myriad Cupids, like a fresh, blue-hued cloud — magnificent
His amber-robes appear like lightning, pure, captivating. Revere this groom of Janaka’s daughter
Sing hymns of the brother of destitute, Lord of the daylight, the destroyer of the clan of Danu-Diti demons
The progeny of Raghu, limitless 'joy', the moon to Kosala, sing hymns of Dasharatha’s son
His head bears the crown, ear pendants, tilak on forehead, his adorned, shapely limbs are resplendent
Arms extend to the knees, studded with bows-arrows, who won battles against Khara and Dooshana
Thus says Tulsidas, O joy of Shankara, Shesh (Nag), Mind and Sages
Reside in the lotus of my heart, O slayer of the vices-troops of Kaama and the like

Meaning -

This a song illustrating the state of mind of Bharat ji when he knew that Ramchandra ji with Sita ji and Laxman went on an exile just because of his mother Kaikayi .He says these words to his mother ...

Janani (means mother ) O mother I wont live without Ram .
Ram Laxman and Sita ji went to the jungle and father (Dashrath ji ) went to the abode of Gods i.e heaven .
As the dawn brokes I will also go to the  forests what is the need to stay in Ayodhya .
You(Kaikayi) the Deceitful , cunning , wicked and unfortunate who has taken away your knowledge ?
The Gods , humans and the saints all are blaming that you havent done right ..
Tulsidas ji says that Bharat ji says now I only have the hope of the Feet of Lord because the creator has become left to me (means against me) .

Ghan ghamand nabh garjat ghora - this is a saying of Lord Ram chandra ji to laxman ji when he was sitting with laxman ji in panchavati waiting for the rainy season to pass so that they may start searching for Sita ji again in far regions of the South India . -

Listen to Ghan ghamand nabh garjat ghora

Lyrics-

Ghan ghamand nabh gartjat ghora ,piya heen darpat man mora

Damini damak rahat nabh mahi , khal ke preeti jatha thir nahi
Barasahi jalan bhoomi niyraaye , jatha nabhahin guni vidya paaye
Boond aghat sahayin giri aise , khal ke bachan sant saha jaise
Chhudra nadi bahi chali tyorayi , jas tyoreiun dal khal itrai
Sarita jal jal nidhi mahoon jaayi , hoohin achal jin jeev hari paayi .

One must should understand meaning of this song . It is really a milestone in defining nature of goodness in a person .

Meaning -

Sri Ram chandra ji says to Laxman ji :

The proudy clouds are roaring in the sky ,my mind is being afraid without my sweetheart(Sita ji).

The lightening is making the clouds bright in the same way as the love for one is not stable for a wicked .
The rainwater is falling down to flow on the land in the same way as the knowledge itself moves towards a skilled person .
The mountains are tolerating the impact of the rainwater drops in the same way as nobel person tolerate the abusing words from the wicked.
The little river after getting the rainwater flows inundating the areas being overwhelming in the same way as the group of the wicked gets overwhelming after getting little.
The streaming riverwaters are falling in the ocean and are getting calm like ocean in the same way as the disturbed soul(atma)or jeev becomes peaceful after mixing in the supersoul(paramatma)or Hari.

Rann jiti Ram rau aayen - This is the song illustrating the scene just after Ram chandra ji won the battle and then returned to Ayodhya

Rann jeeti Ram rau aayen

sanuj sakal sasiya aayen
Avadh anand manaye

Ram ji has come winning the battle.

He has come with his younger brother and with Sita
and is  celebrating with delight in Awadh .

Aripur jari ujari mari ripu

Bipul subhas basaye
dharni dhenu mahi dev sadhu
sab ke sab soch nasaayen

He has come by setting the city of his enemy on fire , devastating his state and killing his enemy.

He has entertained the city with an exquisite environment .
The earth , the cow , the soil , the gods and the sages
He has destroyed all of their grieves .

dayi lank sir thape vibhishan

bachan piyush piyayen
sudha sinchi kapi kripa nagar nar
nari nihari jiyayen

He has given the Lanka toVibhishan, enthroning him

and saying sweet words to him.
The monkies are irrigating the city with sweetness
and Ram has made the man and women in the city to get alive by showing himself to them .

Ram raj kul kaaj sumangal

sabane sabe sukh paven
dehi ashish bhoomi sur pamudit
praja pramod badhayen

Now there is reign of Ram and all tasks are running delightfully

each and everyone is full of joy ans happiness
the earth is blessing and the gods are happy
He is enhancing the happiness of  his subject .

Kaam dhenu mahi bitap kaamtaru

bahu vidhi badhan lage
te tab ab tulsi kenu jinhit
sahit Ram gun gaayen

the earth has become the milch cow and  the trees have become the Kaamtaru(a tree that gives all desired fruits)

they have sarted growing variously
Tulsi das ji says now an then who so ever has been benefitted by Him
sung the glory of Ram together.

Tu dayalu deen hau

Listen to tu dayalu deen hau

Lyrics-

tu dayalu deen haun

tu daani haun bhikhari
haun prasidhh pataki
tu paap punj haari

nath tu anath ko anaath kaun moso

mo samaan aarat nahi aartihar to so

brahma tu haun jeev tu hai thakur haun chero

taat maat guru sakha sab bidhi hitu mero

tohi mohi naate anek maaniye jo bhaavai

jyon jyon tulasi kripalu charan sharan aave

Meaning from Vinay Patrika :

You are merciful and I am destitute; You grant wishes and I am the seeker. I am a well-known fallen one and You absolve away the heap of sins. You protect the orphans, and there is no orphan like me [hence, protect me]. There is no pain-absolver like You and I am in immense pain [hence, absolve my pain].||1-2||

You are the Brahman and I am a [destitute] living-being; You are the Preceptor and I am a disciple. You are for my benefit in each way — as father, mother, preceptor, or friend. My relations with You are infinite [since You are present in everything], so assume the one You like. At least, this way, Tulsi will get refuge in Your dual-feet.||3-4||
