Malang meaning



The word "malang" can be used in Urdu, Punjabi, and reportedly is also used in Afghani and even Persian, which probably is the root for the word.

Malang word has many meaning every place and culture has different meaning, which are at times even contradictory to each other.

Form Sanskrit origin 'Malang' is union of two words Mal (dirty)and ang(body). Mal is another word for feces. Mael is another word that associated with it that we use daily which means the dirt on your body Mixed with body oils.

In Afghanistan it can be used to refer to magicians, beggars, sorcerers, and even holy men.
Author Jonathan L. Lees book, The "Ancient Supremacy": Bukhara, Afghanistan and the Battle for Balkh, 1731-1901 describes malang as "a religious mystic, often with heterodox or extreme sufi tendencies; a shrine attendant". The word's usage in the song is associated with the love of a nomadic nature, and thus "vagrant" has been used here.
