Yaadon ke album mein padi: Lyrics, Translation (My Friend Pinto)

Movie: My Friend Pinto
Music: Ajay-Atul
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Singer: KK

Yaadon ke album mein padi kahin
Black and white tasveerein hain
Slate pe chhoti ek chalk se khinchi
Tedhi si medhi si lakeeren hain
Zara si dhool hai jam gayi wahan
Hata de aaja hathon se ponch ke
Phir nokilee kare zara
Purani pencilon ko kharonch ke

Somwhere in the album of memories
are black and white pictures,
(as if) there are some haphazard lines
drawn with a small chalk on a slate
some dust is collected there
let's remove it by swiping with our hands
let's once again sharpen
the old pencils by scratching..

o..o.oo..
Un raston pe fir laut ke chalein
o..o.oo..
Le kar woh tez nanhi si cyclein
o..o.oo..
Thi zindagi ki hui jahan subah

let's walk back on those paths again..
taking those fast small bicycles..
where the new morning of life had taken place..

Milti thi jahan mazedaar toffiyan
Chamkeele wraperon Mein mod ke
Aaj dukaane woh khareed lein sabhi
Aath-aano char-aano ko jod ke
Thode se paise jo bach gaye agar
Kyun na khareed lein ek patang bhi
Jiski joh man-pasand ho
Chunenge hum patango ke rang bhi

where we used to get interesting toffees,
folded in colored wrappers..
today let's buy all those shops
by collecting all those pennies*
if some money is still there,
why not buy a kite as well,
whichever is whoever's favorite,
(accordingly) we will choose the colors of kites, too..

o..o.oo..
Un raston pe fir laut ke chalein
o..o.oo..
Le kar woh tez nanhi si cyclein
o..o.oo..
Thi zindagi ki hui jahan subah

Phir se imtihanon mein raatein jaag kar
padh lein ek duje ki copy mang kar
Chal zara chalein
Bachpan ke pal woh jee lein
Befikar se din wo phir zindagi se chheenein..

once again staying up through the nights during exams,
let's study by asking each others copies (notes)
come, let's go
live the moments of childhood,
let's snatch those worriless days from life..

o..o.oo..
Un raston pe fir laut ke chalein
o..o.oo..
Le kar woh tez nanhi si cyclein
o..o.oo..
Thi zindagi ki hui jahan subah

* Chaar aana and aath aana means 25 paise and 50 paise respectively. That was the usual price of a toffee some 20 years ago. 1 aana, which was out of use much earlier, meant a 16th part of a Rupee.
